caller id blocking
Even if Caller ID service is not available in your area, people you call who have the service will see your telephone number - even if your telephone number is unlisted or unpublished. To prevent this, you may wish to block your number.
When you block your number, the person you are calling will not see it. Instead they will see the letter "P" or the word "Private" on their display unit. If the person you are calling has chosen not to accept blocked calls, their phone will not ring. You will hear a message that the party you are calling does not accept blocked calls.
For safety reasons, you cannot block your calls to 9-1-1.
Line Blocking:
- You can have your number blocked automatically on all calls made from your telephone. There is no charge for line blocking. With line blocking, you can unblock your telephone number on individual calls.
- Each time you wish to unblock a call, dial *82 (1182 on rotary or pulse dial phones) before placing your call. There is no charge for per call unblocking no matter how often you use it.
Per Line Blocking:
- Each time you wish to make a call without someone knowing your telephone number, dial *67 (1167 on rotary or pulse dial phones) before placing your call. There is no charge for per call blocking no matter how often you use it.
Operator Blocking:
- When you make calls through the Operator (by dialing "0"), your telephone number is automatically blocked. However, you will be billed an operator charge on your monthly telephone bill.
